Wild Coast Lodge offers the broadest collection of carefully curated, unique, and interesting experiences (many of which are hosted) in Yala. Therefore, we include one ranger-guided game drive in our Fully Inclusive rate, allowing guests the opportunity to craft their stay in a more personalised manner. Guests are welcome to go on an additional game drive in a shared jeep, at a rate of $70 per person. They are also welcome to book an exclusive (private) jeep for just themselves, with a ranger, for premium of $116 (this option is restricted during peak season).

Our jungle philosophy redefines “safari” as a holistic wilderness experience. We are blessed with diverse habitat, ecology and scenery across the five sectors of the Yala National Park Complex and Bundala National Park which is a Ramsar Wetland. Our qualified and passionate team of rangers aspire to showcase the entire spectrum of nature – while leopards play a leading role in our theatre of the wild, they are not the only actor on our stage – our geology, botanical diversity, critters, small mammals, birds and reptiles are equally fascinating.

We also explore the wilderness on foot. On our nature walks around the lodge, our rangers interpret the detailed nuances of the jungle that are overlooked on a game drive. This is often the first time that guests discover the art of “tracking”. It is also a great way to explore our wild coastline.

We also have specialised “birding” experiences where our rangers focus a game drive on bird watching, bird identification, and deliver a rich narrative about migration patterns, breeding habits, plumage variations and more! We’re proud to say that we’ve converted many guests who didn’t consider themselves “birders” before to be passionate bird watchers after trying this guided experience.

But wildlife is only part of the story. Steeped in the jungles of the national parks that surround us are remnants of civilisations past, such as ancient jungle monasteries, archaeological sites and places of worship that date back to mythical eras of the gods. Our neighbouring village of Bundala is quaint and charming and offers a glimpse into the traditional farm-based life of rural Sri Lanka, with beautiful scenery and cultural character. Such excursions are guided explorations and add depth and context to the Yala complex which was once an integral part of historic southern kingdoms.

And safari is never complete without some hearty jungle dining. But our culinary experiences go beyond dining. Our menu is creative, delicious and presents the best of contemporary Sri Lanka and redefined favourites. Our “cook your own lunch” experience – a hands on Sri Lankan cookery class, hosted by our head chef – is also a guest favourite.

Our Sanctuary Spa is a little nook of pampering and indulgence amongst the trees for guests to soothe and rejuvenate themselves. And we end every day with “sundowner” cocktails on our beach to bid adieu to another day in the wild.
